Hello writers! Happy National Poetry month and, for those participating, Happy Camp NaNoWriMo! April is a hugely inspirational month for writers, when I often offer a deep intensive for a small group of writers, but this year my family and I are going on vacation in the middle of it all. I’ll still be showing up here loads of times with bonus Write-ins and a brand new POETRY Prompt Party later on in the month to take advantage of all of the inspiration found all around. Below you will find your complete calendar of events for Stop Writing Alone in April, as well as how you can participate in them!

What it Looks Like
New This Month
It’s National Poetry Month, and I have been participating in a local poetry workshop since early March, so I am feeling inspired to bring this all together to the community in the form of a new type of Writing Prompt Party, a very special
POETRY PROMPT PARTY
My plan is to continue our tradition of awesome inspiration and vulnerability that we have carried through all of our Writing Prompt Parties. The routine will be the same — light chat and intros, sharing a prompt, set a timer to write, then read aloud the first drafts we have written. The difference? This time the prompt will be intended to inspire poetry, and our goal will be to write a poem instead of a short story! For my poets out there, it’s finally happening! For my prose writers, be not afraid! Walk on the wild side and celebrate poetry month with us, or feel free to use the prompt to write some first draft fiction.
Special Events This Month
You may notice some colorful squares on this month’s calendar. Those are events that require a step or two outside of our typical community gethering spaces.
CRITIQUE CREW CONVERSATIONS
It’s still going for cohort 1! The first wave of Stop Writing Alone Critique Crew is meeting weekly to have a Zoom call to focus on one writer’s work. We are sharing WRITING NOTES, PEER LETTERS and we are ASKING LOADS OF QUESTIONS. These are conversations, so you can read that ask critique WITHOUT the rule of silence! (I discussed what’s been happening so far in episodes 185 and 186 of the Stop Writing Alone Podcast). In May, I will begin my search for cohort 2 of Critique Crew. If you think you might be interested in joining us, go grab yourself a copy of Craft in the Real World by Mathew Salesses — reading that is your first prerequisite for joining!
THE GREAT SUBSTACK PROMPT CELEBRATION
It’s the third month of my collaboration with the Substack community Fictionistas. Fictionistas is a community for fiction writers who write on Substack (like I do with my Story Hoarder page). Heather Huffman of Sprinkled Inspiration and I are teaming up to bring The Great Substack Prompt Celebration to the Fictionistas crew where we will be inspiring the community to write a new story every month with a prompt that we share with them. It starts with my favorite, a Writing Prompt Party! The information on how you can participate can be found each month on the Fictionistas Substack Page.
