I know Monday nights aren’t the best, but this one came in nice and crunchy in my house, as Covid-19 has descended upon us once again. It is for this reason, and this reason alone, that I was not totally devastated when no one made it to the night’s Writing Prompt Party. My sneeze-y self was off the hook!
All the same, I had a prompt ready to go, so why not share it with you in the event your Mondays shake themselves off quicker than mine and you are ready to write!
From page 179 of Improv for Writers, I give you this prompt.
The Prompt
Write a story using the following components inspired by the GAME: Countdown 5, 2, 1, :30, :15, found on page 179 of Improv for Writers by Jorjeana Marie. The game, which is created to flex your editing muscles, suggests that you write a scene in five minutes, then rewrite in two minutes, then again in one minute, then again in thirty seconds and finally 15 seconds. If you are up to this challenge and feel as though it would support your creativity today, go for it. In the prompt party, I was going to set a timer for fifteen minutes and see what kind of stories we could come up with, leaving our editing for later. Here are the premises, setting and characters I picked.
Use either this Headline or Premise:
HEADLINE: This is the Formula for Happiness
PREMISE: At a rock concert, the band is taken hostage
Use this Setting:
Post office
Use either this Antagonist or Supporting Player:
ANTAGONIST: Alcoholic gold-digger
SUPPORTING PLAYER: Tell-it-like-it-is assistant
HAPPY WRITING!
Oh no! I hope you all feel better soon! Did you go to the gym? Could that be where you got it?
Feel better 💐
