While we are not there yet, we are about to round the corner into the final week of November. In the US we have a big holiday distraction tomorrow, but with its early onset this year, that gives us plenty of time to make up for a day away as soon as it concludes.
In short, what I am saying is: DO NOT GIVE UP ON YOUR WRITING PROJECT!
What’s On My Mind This Word Count Wednesday
My word count doodle was created in the middle of the day, so another thousand words got added since, but I am still no where near the “on par” count for anyone in NaNoWriMo running. This was not my goal for the month, so I am not unsettled by it, but I am wondering where you are in comparison to where you want to be.
Regardless if you are ahead of schedule or dragging behind, there is no need to walk away. If you are feeling absolutely exhausted by the word mongering process, schedule some time away and give yourself permission to really walk away. This is the one benefit of American Thanksgiving landing as it does in this month. For many American writers, this is a forced day of walking away. What I want you to do is to walk away from your writing for the holiday without writer’s guilt. Rejoin your project at the end of the night, or if you have a family of real party animals, make up for your time away on Friday. Just tell yourself tonight:
I am allowed to walk away, as long as I promise to return.
And return.
And, by the way, even when you walk away your writer’s brain will be working consciously or subconsciously. You will reap those rewards on your return.
