Since the beginning of the Stop Writing Alone community (and especially once the pandemic stepped in), I am very sad to say that I dropped the ball when it came to keeping my Staten Island Writing Group active. In recent years, I am happy to say that I found out, at least in the realm of poetry, there is a powerful community taking to the streets. This month one of the powerful leaders in that community, Thomas Fucaloro, is launching a FREE online poetry workshop series for anyone to join (you can bet I am all signed up).
Why Creating Space
Last year I joined another workshop created by Thomas Fucaloro (The Garbage We Inherit) that was hosted in a number of local venues in Satten Island, New York. The experience helped me see my home and my writing with brand new eyes. It was opportunity to learn from local poets, hear new (to me) voices, and tap into an aspect of my writing I thought long dormant. I am so looking forward to having a similar experience this Spring and didn’t want to get started this Saturday without taking a moment to post about it here and let you know. I had shared the registration link in some social spaces when I originally signed up, but due to my wonky health in the past month I never got around to writing up the full, attention-grabbing Substack post.
Here it is.
Here is the description of the workshop from Thomas himself:
