Welcome to November! It’s writing community season. It is the birthday of so many writers’ belief in themselves. This month, in all of its online writing buzz, makes more words appear on the screens and in the notebooks of writers and people who call themselves “aspiration writers” more than any other!
Word Count Wednesday
I know many people are starting their November word count at zero, but I am not. I am continuing work on a project I have come to call “Into the Yellow.” There aren’t a ton of drafted words, but there is a lot of dreamed up story. I can’t imagine a better way to spend my word energy this month!
What’s Your Word Count?
What’s your word count today? Let us know in the comments, along with whatever you curently feel comfortable sharing about your current passion project. We’ll do this check-in here each Wednesday so we can cheer each other on in multiple spaces!

Share With a New Writer Friend
"‘Tis the season of new writer friends. In your online and IRL travels as a writing community member, don’t forget to mention this great find for writing community support ALL YEAR ROUND! Share this post with someone who is eager to Stop Writing Alone!
Hooray, NaNoWriMo has begun! As of right now I'm at 1218, which I wrote after midnight and before I went to bed. Even though I have a rough outline, I had no idea where to start, oddly enough. It's book 3 in a series but how to kick things off? So I decided to write the thoughts of one of my main characters, a character that was incredibly important in book 1 but didn't have his own POV. Hearing him assess where the story was so far was fascinating, because the seeds of all of the conflicts are right there.
What I realized was that he honestly doesn't understand why another character (the POV of book 2) has what we would call PTSD, as he himself went through hell and can manage just fine. What will be interesting is that I already know what is about to happen (and that his whole world is about to crash down around him) so he is about to get a rude awakening in how grief and trauma can destroy someone. 🫣
Anyway, that was my first 1200 words. I plan to do a bunch of writing today and have the first write-in that I am organizing this evening, so fingers crossed I might have a solid 3-5K for day one (which I will definitely need for padding later!)
I was hoping to make it tonight but can't. Next time!
