I don’t know if I stand alone in bated breath, but I find myself unable to bring the cheer and inspiration under the shadow of the video about to be released.
I am feeling really out of the loop here. What did I miss? With some many things going on in my personal life, I have been greatly distracted and haven't watched the news at all
On January 7, a 29 year old black man was beaten to death by four police officers in Memphis, TN. The officers were immediately fired and charged. There were multiple videos of the incident totaling over an hour of footage. It was announced that the video footage would be released publicly tonight and cities around the country were preemptively taking actions to maintain calm in the aftermath of the viewing. For example, here in NYC, Grand Central station has been closed to the public, only ticket holders were permitted inside. In Atlanta, Ga, a state of emergency was put into effect this afternoon and National Guard was called in.
I am sure other cities had preemptive actions as our Mayor said he was addressing our city after getting off a call with the President and the mayors of a number of cities.
The point being this video was deemed so horrific and inhumane that it was expected there would be an enormous reaction by the public.
I simply don’t have it in me to be *on* in the midst of this when I feel like there are other places attention should go in this moment.

I can totally understand that.
