What a great idea this is Nicole. I have found out that by writing mostly fiction on Substack, it isn't favored as much as news, life or memoir kind of stuff. Thank you for doin this. every little bit of advertising helps. Here's my link to my stack for now. https://penniersn.substack.com?utm_source=navbar&utm_medium=web&r=17kzw6
I think you are absolutely right about the preferences of the current audience at Substack, or at least what the platform promotes. But I think there is lots of power in some grassroots connections like these to maybe start lifting our collective voices so we can be heard as a group. Hopefully if we keep lifting up fellow fiction writers in communities like this one and Fictionistas, then maybe we can make a big enough mark for Substack to notice!
This is a link to an anthology I was part of a few years ago. It was at the beginning of my writing career and I hadn't nailed down my pen name, so I just used my nickname R.B. Stormcrow. It is the first bit of a story that takes place in my fantasy world Cassari, and I will be continuing it as a serial here on Substack. Gem of Krysvaris Part I: https://books2read.com/b/Throughthesunshine
Hi, what a fab idea this story share is! Much appreciate it being set up. Great chance to read the stories of others. When i joined substack a few months ago i signed up to various interesting stacks which came up as suggestions but no story writing. Here's a short 2000 word piece of mine and thanks to anyone reading it. https://sarahswanston.substack.com/p/happy-new-year
https://linnhe.substack.com - creative writing (usually dystopian, often dark, sometimes bittersweet). Also bits of film photography and bobs of travel.
This is my favorite of the various stories I've written.

I liked the details for the items she ordered that the narrator began ordering as well.
I’m sharing something a bit out of my comfort zone (my genre is dark fantasy), but this is a contemporary short story:

I haven't been writing very long and this is probably my best work. Thanks for letting me share!

If you like non-fiction, and are interested in the history of animation, this book by me may be of interest: https://www.amazon.com/America-Toons-History-Television-Animation/dp/0786476508
Nice! I used to be an animator, way back in the day. stop motion - think Wallace and Gromit. Even did a short stint at Aardman Animation.
I'd like to share an older piece that didn't get as much love since my numbers of readers was smaller. (Hmm, I should probably do a reshare of older writing for newbies.) https://twistingmyths.substack.com/p/a-quick-tale-man-walks-into-bar
I write short dark stories, often, but not always, set in Thailand. https://darknovels940200135.wordpress.com/2024/01/11/only-in-bangkok-3/

I'm serializing two stories on Substack: a romanic mystery (https://torichase.substack.com/s/mountain-shadows-2) and a horror story (https://torichase.substack.com/s/brookhaven). Hehe, I'm having so much fun.
this is one of the weirdest things i’ve ever written and consequently one of my favorites https://open.substack.com/pub/theageofaquarius/p/i-know-an-old-lady-who-swallowed?r=kwzmq&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post
